Slope Soaring Flagstaff Style
Slope Soaring Flagstaff Style
2008
What do we count on in Flagstaff during the Spring. Yep! Wind.. and usually lots of it. But then there are days when you want the wind to blow and it won't. Today was one of those days. Before heading out to Sheba I stopped by the flying field. I counted 15 cars in the parking lot with plenty of flying taking place. I waiting around to see if Dawson would show up, but when he didn't I decided to head for Sheba. When I was approaching the mountain I was looking for any sign of cars on the shelf. I saw one car on the southern shelf and a couple on top. It didn't take long to realize that the cars on the top belong to a paraglider that just launched. So the car on the shelf had to be Dawson, and it was.
When I drove up Dawson was bungie launching his planes. The wind was marginal at best out of the southeast. The shelf was not a good place to fly. Soon others showed up. It didn't take long to decide to go to the top of Sheba. Ten showed up is all and wind was better but still not the best. We bungie launched and hand launched, chased and chased. The worst chase was Roger. He and Meredith walked all the way to the bottom. It was a nice day over all.
April is Slope Month
