Flagstaff Flyers Power Flying Field
Our flying field is located 15 miles northeast of Flagstaff on the Leupp Road at mile post 433. Visitors are always welcome. Although our best flying is during the summer months we do enjoy year round flying.
Thermal Gliding Field
The glider folks do thermal flying at the Mountainaire Meadow flying field and at a location south of Flagstaff, off Interstate 17 at Mountainaire.
Slope Soaring Sites
Slope soaring can be found North of the Power Flying Field on Sheba and Merriam craters and south of Flagstaff at the Mormon Lake overlook. When the weather starts warming up both of these sites have strong thermals passing through... slope plus thermal equals slermal.
Sheba Crater info, driving directions and map. Fall of 2013 Update: The road to the middle benches has a section that is washed out. We suggest that if you want to fly the SW bench, you should park below the flying site, at the toe of the slope and hike up... about a 150' climb. There is an obvious spot to park on the West sied of the road... right where you normally start using 4WD. Hopefully the hang glider organization, which owns the land, will fix this soon. You may be able to access the SW and SE lower benches from the main road (to the top). However there is a steep, soft section just below the SW bench that is impossible to ascend... unless you have the appropriate skills and vehicle.
